The Reggio Emilia area on foot: the restricted traffic area
A restricted traffic area has been created in the heart of the city to protect the historic center of Reggio Emilia from traffic and to reduce pollution and crowding in the area.
Thanks to Reggio Emilia's highly livable layout , the ban on cars in the city center has made it safer and more enjoyable to take pleasant walks and run daily errands on foot.

Minibu'
ACT has established a Minibus service (Minibù) to transport people to and from city car parks and the historic center, as well as to assist people (such as the elderly) who prefer not to walk.
Besides being completely free-of-charge for drivers who leave their cars in the designated parking areas around the city, ACT Minibuses are hybrid vehicles powered by electric motor. As a result, they release zero emissions into the atmosphere and are silent, thus protecting the old city center from air and noise pollution..
Pedibus
Introduced in 2005, the Pedibus is part of the “Ecoincentive Project” developed by the Province of Reggio Emilia to offer - along with the Bicibus, its twin program - alternative ways of travelling to school and back.
Schools that guarantee a minimum number of participants in the project will receive from ACT a backpack carry cart and a raincoat for each student. Up until now, 10 municipalities in the province have signed up, in addition to the city of Reggio Emilia.
